Kajetan is a vibrant and full of energy boy. Even though nowadays he runs, laughs and discovers the world, the beginning of his story was not easy. Kajten was born prematurely. When he was a month old Mrs. Dorota Kapuscinska took him under her wing, becoming his foster mom. At first it seemed that Kajetan was healthy, unfortunately, later tests revealed a number of health problems. That’s when the fight for a better tomorrow for Kajtek began.
Meet the charge of the Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation and his incredible will to live.
FAS and other conditions
Kajetan suffers from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), which is the result of alcohol consumption by the boy’s biological mother during pregnancy. The disease manifests itself in various disabilities which are the result of the toxic effects of alcohol on the child’s nervous system. FAS manifests itself not only in physical changes, but also in psychological deficits. The boy was quickly diagnosed, which formed the basis for introducing appropriate help. However, other difficulties arose, especially with food intake – Kajtek had to be fed through a probe. Thanks to specialized care and a proper diet, he began to gain weight. Today he eats independently, although his development still requires constant support.
Rehabilitation as an opportunity to improve Kajtek's quality of life
The boy also suffers from developmental defects, impulse control disorders and has asymmetrical body. The most effective form of help in such a situation is rehabilitation. Since February 11, 2022, an experienced specialist – Krystian Kucharski – has been working with him. He emphasizes the importance of the rehabilitation: “The therapy is bringing better and better results. Kajtek had to use feeding tube, so the indication for rehabilitation was automatic. Today the boy walks with a little assistance, overcomes obstacles, runs. He’s the kind of child who is everywhere.” Physiotherapy is a long-term and demanding process, however, it improves tangibly the boy’s quality of life. It is possible thanks to the help of the Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation. “This kind of support makes half the stress as well as constant worrying about where the money for treatment will come from, go away from us caregivers. It’s fantastic that there are foundations like yours to support families and children in foster care,” says Ms. Dorota, a foster mom.
Happy end
Kajtek will turn 3 in October, he can walk, he laughs, is active and joyful. “He has an incredible will to live. Thanks to the Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation, he received even more support. He was surrounded by love and was able to stand on his feet, even though he wasn’t supposed to walk at all.” – recounts the foster mom. The story has a happy ending, as a family was found that gave love to Kajtek and is willing to take care of him forever. The boy’s development requires constant support, but thanks to the actions of good people he has a chance for a happy childhood.
