Hemmersbach Kids’ Family

Solar panels

India aims at energy conservation to minimalize the effects of climate change. We can also say that we made our contribution to these efforts. A big solar water heater was installed on the roof of Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Home. The initiative is not only great as it comes to utilizing renewable energy. It is an excellent way for the children to learn about the power of the Sun and climate change. We have created an educational environment where the learning process in the Kids’ Home is supported by a real example.

Growing vegetables

We use the space behind the Kids’ Home to cultivate our own vegetables. The plan is simple: we work with a gardener who has experience farming and involves the children to monitor the growth of plants. We grow vegetables such as green chillies, coriander and spinach.

Children understand the implications of consuming vegetables that are cultivated in an organic manner without using substances such as fertilizers and insecticides.

Raising awareness

In Hemmersbach Kids’ Family, we pay attention to current issues that affect our Planet. We believe that small steps count and shaping good habits is vital to achieve green future. Together, we can implement sustainable development and improve our environment.

That’s why we have come up with a challenge for the children from our Kids’ home in Bangalore: taking an ECO-pledge to become a Green Classroom.

Planting trees

Together with our children, we aim to envision change by learning and unlearning our own habits while also employing changes in our surroundings. Every year, our elder children with the Educators, design and execute a campaign at our corporate office about sustainable practices to transform or even reaffirm the opinions of our friends.

Our children are encouraged to start small, learn to co-exist with animals which means to leave water for birds and animals, ensure correct disposal of waste, avoid the mis-use of water and other precious resources. Our campus is also home to 7 rescue dogs who live and watch over our staff and children.
