School fees and new uniforms for over 50 children
When COO of Hemmersbach and founder of Kids’ Family, Darek Stanczyk visited India earlier this year and spoke to three orphanages in Bangalore he found living conditions to be comparatively poor and lacking basic facilities. However, when he asked the orphanages and children what they wanted most they did not request furniture, toys or clothes. They simply asked for education.
He vividly remembers one small girl, Mary, saying that she wanted to become a doctor to help her sick mother. Mary, who was found at the age of three begging on the roadside of a slum, struggled for survival for herself and her sick mother. Now she is in the care of Elizabeth Trust and Kids’ Family is helping to make Mary’s dream come true.
Though education in India is compulsory and free from the age of 6 to 14, Government schools are poorly equipped, overcrowded and lack qualified staff. In India with its 1.4 billion people, a complex education system and highly competitive job market, education is the main concern for any parent.
English medium schools are high in demand as they provide education in English and thus better equip the children for the job market. However, the fees are significant and orphanages can rarely raise the needed funds. Hemmersbach Kids’ Family is helping by paying for school fees and uniforms for over 50 children at 10 different schools and thereby giving them the opportunity to pursue their dreams. We were overjoyed to see these kids in their new school uniforms and sports gear with big smiles on their faces.
