Biofeedback training for therapists
EEG Biofeedback also called neurofeedback uses real-time digital technology to measure electrical activity of the brain. During a biofeedback session, the therapist attaches electrodes to the patient’s skin, and these send information to a computer. The therapist views the measurements on the screen, and then introduces relaxation techniques to help regulate the bodily processes.
We have purchased one biofeedback device for each of the children’s homes we support. However, in order to carry out therapies with children, special training is needed. At the Hemmersbach headquarters in Bielany Wrocławskie we organised a four-day training course for teachers and psychologists from children’s homes in Bierutów, Milicz, Oława, Wałbrzych, and Obroniki Śląskie. Workshops consisted of theoretical and practical sessions. 13 participants at the course were learning how to correctly insert electrodes, read results, interpret reports and carry out the therapy.
Biofeedback therapy is recommended by doctors for children if they have problems coping with their emotions, stress, ADHD or depression. Regular sessions are required to achieve the desired results. The costs of therapy are high and the waiting time for consultations is very long. By equipping children’s homes with biofeedback, training the therapists and arranging special therapeutic rooms, we are able to provide access to the therapy for 150 children.
