One decision can shape a child’s entire future.
That is why the Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation, together with its partners, is running the social campaign “One Decision Can Protect a Child’s Entire Life – An Alcohol-Free Pregnancy Means a Safe Start.”
The campaign aims to raise awareness about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and build greater understanding for children and families facing developmental challenges related to FASD. It also promotes conscious care for maternal health during pregnancy and highlights the importance of education, prevention, and social support.
Many people are still unaware of how alcohol consumption during pregnancy can affect a child’s development. This is why access to reliable information, open conversations, and professional support is so important.
Campaign Goals
For years, we have supported children and young people living in foster care. The topic of FASD has been close to the Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation since the very beginning of our work.
By cooperating with caregivers, foster families, and specialists, we see every day how essential proper diagnosis, understanding of a child’s needs, and access to specialist support truly are.
Through this campaign, we aim to:
- raise public awareness about FASD and developmental challenges,
- educate parents, caregivers, and professionals,
- counteract the stigmatization of children and families,
- promote alcohol-free pregnancy as the safest start for a child.
We want to build awareness that FASD is preventable through education and by supporting women during pregnancy. We believe that knowledge and understanding are key to providing children with the support they need and improving the quality of life for entire families.
Activities Within the Campaign
As part of the campaign, we are implementing a range of educational and support initiatives:
- publishing educational articles and real-life stories of children and families affected by FASD,
- organizing a practical online webinar series for parents, caregivers, and professionals. These meetings help participants better understand FASD, its impact on child development, and the functioning of the whole family. The webinars are led by Canadian expert Małgorzata Tomanik,
- preparing the guidebook “Alcohol-Free Pregnancy – Why It Matters” (release planned for August 2026),
- funding psychologist consultations for children with FASD or suspected FASD living in foster care at the HKF Child Development Support Center in Wrocław.
Our goal is to combine public education with real support for children and their caregivers.
Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation and Campaign Partners
The Hemmersbach Kids’ Family Foundation supports children and young people in foster care in Poland and India. In Poland, we focus on providing access to therapeutic, medical, and educational support.
We created a free e-learning platform dedicated to foster care and organize webinars and training programs that strengthen the competencies of caregivers and professionals working with children and adolescents.
In 2025, we carried out the nationwide social campaign “Support Begins with a Diagnosis.” Its goal was to increase awareness about developmental difficulties in children and adolescents and highlight the importance of early diagnosis in planning effective support.
The campaign combined educational activities with real help. Thanks to the campaign, we funded 74 diagnostic assessments for children and adolescents living in foster care. These included assessments for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, FASD, learning difficulties, sensory integration challenges, and intellectual functioning.
